Two new teachers started in the Language Centre this year. We have had four full-time English teachers here at the school for many years now, but since two new teachers joined this year I’d like to introduce them to everyone. 　Our first new teacher is Priyanaka Chakraborty and she is from India. She has been teaching in Japan for the last 4 years and joined our team in April of this year. She teaches all the junior high school and is the lead teacher for our English club. 　Our second new teacher is from New York City and his name is Victor Lane. He was an ALT in Iwate for two years before joining our team in August of this year. He also teaches all junior high school and supports Ms Chakraborty with the English club. 　The benefit of having 4 teachers from different countries is that our students have access to different accents and different kinds of English. Right now they can hear and understand American English as spoken by Mr. Lane and Mr. Stifler. They can hear British English and Indian English as spoken by Ms. Chakraborty and they can hear British English and Hiberno-English as spoken by me. I’m glad that our students will have the opportunity to work with, and speak to teachers from many different countries and become more accustomed to a more realistic style of the English language. I am also excited to see our students being exposed to a variety of cultures and customs. I hope that this new Language Centre team can work together to share a lot from our countries and cultures with our students.
