Yesterday after school we skyped with Statehouse Girls School, in Kenya. It's an all-girls boarding school, that means that the students live in dormitories at school. They only go home on long vacations like summer and winter.

We called them at 4:40pm Japanese time and talked for more than an hour. There is a 6 hour time difference between Kenya and Japan so it was easy to do it. Usually the Kenyan students have classes but yesterday was a national holiday called Eid-al-Fitr. They explained it to us - that day marks the end of Ramadan. Ramadan is the month-long fasting that Muslims do. They celebrate the end of it on Eid-al-Fitr. Actually, none of the students at Statehouse Girls School are Muslim, but they could have the day off anyway.

We talked about Tanabata, too. In November the Statehouse students will hold a Japanese Culture festival. They have been learning Japanese songs, calligraphy and origami for it. They invited us to join them - I really wish we could go...

We'll talk with them again soon. I'm really looking forward to it.
