Exchange Student Presentations / 留学生のプレゼン
At School Festival this year our three exchange students made presentations as part of a collaborative project with the International Friendship Committee. They spent about two weeks researching and preparing to talk about 'strange things' from their culture. The presentations were a huge success and I think everyone learned a lot from the students. Azza who is from Malaysia talked about superstitions. Did you know that on your birthday you should hit your head with a red egg for good luck? It sounds painful but fun! Zarah from Germany told us that in Germany people take their shoes off on their houses just like Japan but because there's no genkan they just leave the shoes outside the door! I thought that was funny - what if it rains?! Zahra from America talked to us about gun violence. She told us that many students protest gun violence and they hope that these protests will make the government think more about gun laws.
All three presentations were interesting and I felt like I could learn a lot about the students as well as their home countries. After the presentations we had 'Question Time' - a lot of guests asked them questions about the differences between their countries and Japan or differences in the education system. It was a really nice end to a busy school festival.
